Forget-me-not

Today is the International Day of Alzheimer's. A day to remember. For anyone who no longer can.

For anyone who is lost in a fog of their own mind. And for everyone who has to watch a person they knew fading into a different version of themselves.

A version that is closely woven together with who they once were. Their essence is still there. Fate has simply forced you to feel and know them in a different way.

Whatever deadline you are chasing today, take it as a blessing that you remember her.

More importantly, that you remember people's faces, their names and favourite foods, their music preferences or which jacket they prefer to wear when a cool morning breeze blows through town. Their dreams, fears, smiles and - their voices.

Let us take a moment today to appreciate that we can remember. And that your friends do too. Don't take it for granted. It may be a limited blessing.
